The Streets

The Streets

The Streets, the project of British multi-instrumentalist and producer Mike Skinner, revolutionised UK music in the early 2000s with its raw, spoken-word style and genre-blending sound. Blurring the lines between hip-hop, garage, and electronic music, Skinner’s 2002 debut album, ‘Original Pirate Material’, became an instant classic, offering sharp social commentary on working-class life in the UK. The follow-up album, ‘A Grand Don’t Come for Free’ (2004), elevated Skinner's status further, weaving a compelling narrative through everyday observations and witty lyricism. After a 12 year hiatus, The Streets returned in 2023 with their sixth album, ‘The Darker the Shadow the Brighter the Light’ and an accompanying film. The album was met with widespread critical acclaim, with many praising Skinner’s sonic evolution while preserving his signature storytelling and DIY ethos.
