The Murder Capital

The Murder Capital, formed in 2018 in Dublin, is one of the most praised new bands, known for their powerful post-punk sound explosion, deep introspective lyrics, and energetic live performances. This five-piece consists of James McGovern (vocals), Damien Tuit (guitar), Cathal Roper (guitar), Gabriel Paschal Blake (bass), and Diarmuid Brennan (drums). They constantly push the boundaries of the post-punk sound, delivering emotional depth in every song. Music critic Damien Morris described them for The Guardian as ‘reaching back to Joy Division’s drum tattoos, interlocking with surging, wave-break bass. Pixies' quiet-loud-quiet trick is in there, as are Shame and Savages, while PJ Harvey and the Bad Seeds infest tracks such as ‘Green & Blue’. The band has released three albums so far, with their second one, ‘Gigi's Recovery’, recorded in Los Angeles under the production of Grammy winner John Congleton. In February 2025, they released ‘Blindness’, which, according to frontman McGovern, is their strongest and most coherent release to date, with songs exploring both personal and political themes.
