Yard Act join INmusic festival #17 with their punk energy, danceable rhythms, and clever, often spoken-word style lyrics that really makes them stand out!
Yard Act are a British post-punk band from Leeds, known for their sharp wit, driving rhythms, and socially conscious lyrics. Formed in 2019, the band consists of James Smith (vocals, lyrics), Ryan Needham (bass), Sam Shipstone (guitar) and Jay Russell (drums). The group quickly gained attention with their debut album The Overload (2022), which blends sardonic commentary on modern life with infectious grooves, received widespread acclaim for its witty exploration of modern societal issues, such as class divides and capitalism. The album combines punchy basslines, angular guitar riffs, and James Smith’s vocal delivery, creating a sound that is both urgent and infectious. Their second album, Where's My Utopia?, released on 1 March 2024, continues their exploration of political and societal issues, while incorporating influences from 1970s Italo disco, '90s hip-hop, and early 2000s indie rock.
Their energetic live performances and clever songwriting have cemented them as one of the most exciting bands in the UK’s contemporary music scene. Yard Act join the already announced artists Fontaines D.C. and St. Vincent on the Jarun Lake isles at INmusic festival #17.
